STRATEGIES FOR FUNDING BUSINESS EDUCATION PROGRAMMES IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS: ONDO AND EKITI STATES IN PERSPECTIVE

Business Education programmes are skill development programmes by their nature and are capital intensive. Therefore, the issue of adequate funding cannot be overemphasized. The study examined the strategies for funding Business education programmes in tertiary institutions in Ondo and Ekiti States. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Three research questions were raised and two research hypothesis were formulated to guide the study. The population of the study comprised of 72 business educators in six tertiary institutions offering business education and office technology and management programmes in Ondo and Ekiti states. The entire population was studied because it was manageable. A structured 25-item questionnaire tagged ‘Strategies for Funding Business Education Programmes in tertiary institutions in Ondo and Ekiti States’ in which a 5-point rating scale was used to obtain data. The instrument was validated by three experts and a trial test was conducted using crombach Alpha formular to obtain a reliability coefficient of 0.81 thereby confirming that the instrument was reliable. The data was analyzed using mean and standard deviation while Z-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed, among others, that corporate organisations, parents, philanthropists and alumni associations are sources of funding Business education programme. It was recommended that corporate organisations, parents, philanthropists and alumni associations should be involved in the sufficient funding of Business education programme in tertiary institutions in Ondo and Ekiti states.References
